Thanksgiving 1958
By Charles Patiño

Think positive.

Don’t be blue.

After all, you’re you and that in itself is so cool.
But since you don’t think so I guess I’ll have to show
Why it’s so cool to be you…so here goes.

First off you were born in the U S of A
And for many a person that would be all they needed to know that their life is OK.

Second, look at your folks and ask yourself this.
How many kids are as lucky as you when first thing in the morning and when it’s time to go nighty night, A kiss on the cheek makes you feel that everything will be all right. They clothe you, they feed you, and they make sure you’re safe when tucked away.

And even though you don’t always get your way,
There are times when an opinion you are able to sway.
So be joyful, be happy, and be known as that kid who loves being a kid And think not of your folks as those jokes that need to be hid.

Don’t be sour with a gloom on your face After all, since birth you have ruled the place. So think through it all and try to recall
All the times they came running when you would call. Now, go back in that room Face the doom. Be up front and do not deny
For the tell in your eye will tell if you lie. Mom, Pop, I have to tell you something that you probably know.

It was I who poked his finger in the pumpkin pie. I don’t why.
Just thought I’d give it a try. So I guess to my room I’ll go,
And wait on word what punishment you all will bestow.
