By Charles Patino
Tired and weary sad and teary.
In the twilight of my days my mind is often in a haze;
But this I know and shall never forget in these my remaining days.
I lived it all with a simple rule which never have I come to regret.
Following it faithfully day after day, and oh what a beautiful life indeed I was beget.
What is the rule I speak of you do ask?
Is it hard to follow, a very difficult task?
No not at all, easy as can be.
And once you too do follow this rule all will be better, you’ll see.
For me, I learned it early in my life observing members of my family tree.
It took a bit of practice to get it right; but before I knew it I saw the light.
Rewarded with an inner peace and joyful days far less in strife.
Again you ask what is this rule I followed religiously throughout my fantastical life.
Simply put, it is to treat others as I wished to be treated by them.
How about you?
Malarkey you say? Get them before they get you is the philosophy you spew?
To this I say you are a fool and one day I pray you too will see the beauty of the Golden Rule.
For to lead a life of brotherhood will be a life considered grand,
And when you do need it (and you will one day) then too there will be a helping hand.
That’s it, simple as can be.
Live it faithfully and the bright light of right you too will quickly see.
A doubter I still see. Try it out if you don’t believe me and if I’m wrong that’s a lick on me.
But if I’m right, and right I’ll be, pass it along one day
To someone else who needs to change their way.
