My Garden

Garden Memories:  Recuerdos de Dos Mujeres
By Mary Olivia Perez Patiño

Life in the garden,
Dos jardines,
Brightly speaking
Youth and Age together

Reaching
Mother working her slower pace
Trembling hands,
Nurturing the tree and binding its wayward branches,

“¡Ay, canijas!
Espinas que duelen,
Y marcan los años.
Pero no me ganan.”

Life -Stretching this way and that
Miles apart but one
Searching light
Blend of color Fragrance.

From inside I ‘see’
Effects
100 plus degrees
Evaporating heat outside

Stifles
Keep on
Do not give in
To ravages of time and summer intensity.
